Lord Mitchell of Hampstead Member of the House of Lords,

Lord Mitchell holds a B.Sc (Econ) from the University of London and an MBA from Columbia University Graduate School of Business.

His business career was primarily in the equipment leasing industry.  He started in 1968 and left the industry in 2006.  Parry is a serial entrepreneur and he founded, developed and eventually sold three market leading companies in the IT leasing sector - they were Standard Chartered Leasing Limited, United Leasing plc and Syscap plc.  United Leasing was the first leasing company to obtain a full listing on the London Stock Exchange.

He has also been involved in national politics.  He stood twice for Parliament for the SDP - in Ealing in 1983 and Salisbury in 1987.

In 2000 he was ennobled on the recommendation of Tony Blair and he takes the Labour whip.  He has sat on the prestigious Science and Technology Select Committee and now sits on the Joint Parliamentary Select Committee on National Security Strategy.  He is a former Shadow Business Minister responsible for SMEs and today is Labour’s Enterprise Adviser and the chair of Labour Digital where he is formulating Labour’s policy for the digital revolution.
